People that have children (and/or pets) often extol the virtues of baby gates. There are several different styles to choose from. In fact, there are more styles of baby gates on the market today than there have ever been before. From cheap baby gates to some of the more expensive ones, there is at least one that will work for almost any household.

Cheap baby gates are most often the ones that are barrier gates. This means that they are not able to be walked through; one must step over them to get in or out of a room. They are usually pressure mounted and are best for low traffic areas. Before investing in a pressure gate make, sure that you can comfortable step over it, even if your hands are full. Injuries while attempting to step over barrier gates are common.

There are certain benefits associated with barrier gates. They are usually very portable and can be hidden or put away quite easily. If they are not in use they can be easily slid under a couch or bed or even put away in a closet. Some barrier gates have their own carrying case and are very portable. This can be especially convenient if you are traveling.

Baby gates are made to be used for children that range in age from six months to age three. By the time they are three years old, most children can safely navigate steps (some are better than others, that’s why parental supervision is stilled advised) and some of them can even open and close their baby gates. Some of them even climb over them in an attempt to get in or out of an area. At this point, it might be best to remove the gate so that your child doesn’t get injured by it.

There are also pressure mounted gates that are able to be opened and closed, therefore making them a walk-through gate. Parents tend to like these types of gates due to their convenience factor – no installation is required. The gates can be adjusted and use pressure to stay in place. Some of them might require a little tweaking and adjusting as time goes by, but overall they are very user friendly.

Baby gates for stairs are always use hardware to mount to the wall. These are the safest types of gates available and can be used anywhere in the home, not just on the stairs. They are more permanent structures and will require tools for installation. Many of the gates will require you to use a drill, level and/or a screwdriver to ensure proper installation. Hardware mounted baby gates can be removed from a wall and the holes can be patched and painted over. If this is done correctly, know one will ever know that a gate was there!

As parents have evolved, so have baby gates. A baby gate can be made out of fabric, metal or wood. When you are looking for a baby gate, be sure to measure the area that you need it for and determine if it is a high traffic or low traffic area. Making smart decisions regarding the right kind of baby gate can help your peace of mind as your baby starts moving around the house.

Baby gates used to be cumbersome, ugly and not very user friendly. However, all of that has changed in recent years. Today’s baby gate is often a permanent part of a homes décor and parent’s often choose them based on how they look and how they perform. There is actually nothing wrong with that, providing that the baby gate that you choose is used correctly and according to manufacturer’s specifications.

There are many different types of baby gates. Some of them are pressure mounted; others will require the use of hardware to be mounted on the wall. Pressure mounted gates are adjustable and require no hardware. They can expand to different sized openings and use tension in order to stay in place. Gates that use hardware for installation are more permanent. Baby gates for stairs should never be pressure mounted; they should always use hardware installation.

Some baby gates are barrier gates. This means that a parent must step over the gate in order to enter or exit a room. These are often ideal for low traffic areas. Be sure to pay attention to the height of a gate and make sure that you can comfortably step over it without hurting your legs or back. Getting a gate that is too low isn’t a good idea either because your baby might be able to climb over it, often much sooner than you think they will!

Baby gates that open and close are called walk through baby gates. These are especially convenient for high traffic areas. The latch should be able to be easily opened and closed using one hand. These are great for kitchen entryways.

Retractable baby gates are yet another option for parents. These can be placed in numerous places around the home. When they are not needed, they will actually retract, leaving the doorway open. These can be especially helpful in smaller areas. Retractable baby gates do require some installation, but they can be very useful and help a home retain some style.

Many parents today prefer a house with an open floor plan. This can be great for when you are cooking dinner in the kitchen but still want to watch your baby play in the living room. Fortunately there are extra wide baby gates than can accommodate these types of floor plans. These can also be useful to keep pets out of certain areas.

Some baby gates are even portable. They can be used to take to places that haven’t necessarily been baby proofed yet. They come with handy carrying cases and are pressure mounted to the walls. This can be a great option to use when you are taking your baby to someone else’s house that may not have small children or have areas that might pose as a safety risk for a baby.

Up until recently, using a baby gate inside a house used to mean sacrificing style for safety. That isn’t the case any more. Today’s baby gates are stylish yet practical. They provide safety but aren’t the eyesores that they used to be. They are also more user friendly, with latches that only require one hand to operate.

Do you need to baby proof your home, but are confused about what you need? One of the most important purchases that parents will make is a baby gate. They are designed to keep babies in or out of specific areas of the home. Babies are naturally curious, but they don’t often understand the dangers of certain areas of the home. That is why every home that has stairs should have a baby gate at the top and bottom of the staircase. Doing so can help a frazzled parent’s peace of mind.

A baby gate that is placed at the top of the steps should be mounted to the wall using hardware. The hardware and instructions are included with the gate and should be followed very closely to ensure the safety of both yourself and your baby. If you have baseboards, make sure to get a gate that is adjustable at both the top and the bottom in order to account for the differences in measurement between the baseboards and the walls.

Baby gates for stairs are available in a wide array of widths, heights and materials. Some of them are metal and plastic. There are also wooden baby gates which can are available in a few different stains. These can be very stylish and actually can compliment the décor of your house while being a useful safety device.

Another important aspect to choosing the right baby gate is the ease of use. The gate’s latch should be easy enough for you to open and close (even one handed), while providing enough security that your little one cannot operate it. If a latch is not closed correctly, some babies and toddlers could easily open it and end up hurting themselves by being somewhere that they shouldn’t. Some baby gates even have an indicator that tells you if the latch is closed correctly.

Baby safety gates should be used as soon as your baby starts to crawl. If possible, you should set them up sooner so that you will be used to having them by the time your baby is mobile. Many baby gates state that they are for children that are six to 24 to 36 months old. Of course, you can use the gate for as long as you need to, providing that your child cannot climb over it or unlatch it.

There are extra wide baby gates that are made for irregularly shaped or extra wide entry ways. This can be useful for keeping the baby out of kitchens or other areas that you don’t want them in. Extra wide baby gates can use the barrier method or have gates that open and close. Some of them are pressure mounted, others use hardware. You might have to experiment with different ones to see what works best for your household.

Many baby gates today are made to minimize the damage to walls and are able to be easily installed. For installations that require hardware, it is very important to measure before you drill. You want the gate to be level, because a crooked gate will not latch properly or provide enough protection. If you follow the instructions properly you can benefit from the peace of mind that a baby gate can provide – and that means a lot to most parents!

Evenflo is a recognized name and is associated with all different types of baby products. An Evenflo baby gate is an optimal choice for protecting your baby, whether you want to keep him in or out of a certain area. Evenflo has both types of gates; barrier and pass through. Some of them are made to be used in standard doorways, others for at the top of the stairs and still others for oddly shaped entries. They are also available in a few different materials.

Barrier gates include the Crosstown and the Position and Lock line. Both of them are pressure mounted to the walls. The Crosstown is portable, so it’s perfect for parents on the go, especially if they are taking a baby to someone’s house that isn’t “baby proofed”. But since it is only 27” tall, it is fairly easy for most adults to step over. It adjusts to widths of 38” to 60” wide. The Position and Lock gate is 23” tall and fits opening that are anywhere from 26” to 42” wide. The Position and Lock Plus gate is 32” in height and fits widths of 29.5” to 50”.

The Summit gate is also a pressure mounted gate and can be used in numerous places. Because it is adjustable, it is great for entryways that have baseboards. Conveniently, the gate swings either way and is easily accessed using one hand. It even has a display on it that lets you know if it closed properly. It is approximately 32” tall.

The Top of Stair Plus Wood Gate is made specifically for staircases. It is mounted to the wall using hardware. The one-hand release mechanism is made especially for high traffic areas and it also has a mechanism that keeps the gate from swinging over the stairs. It is 32” tall and adjusts to widths of 30” to 48” wide.

The Home Décor gates bring a little bit of style to baby gates. They are made of wood and are available in 2 different stains. They must be mounted using hardware, which makes them safe to use at the top of the stairs. They fit openings that measure 31” to 52” wide and are 32” tall.

The Secure Step Gate is also made for the top of the stairs and uses hardware in order to be mounted securely into the walls. Unlike the other Evenflo baby gates, this one is made of metal. It has a newer gate release system which most parents find to be fairly easy. It is also pre-assembled, which makes for simple installation. It will fit openings that are 29” to 42” wide and is 30” tall.

The Expansion Swing Gate is a wooden gate that is mounted to the wall using hardware. It expands up to 5 feet in width, so it is great for extra wide entry ways! It is 32” in height and will fit entry ways from 24” to 60” wide. It also has a one-hand latch release.

Evenflo baby gates are made with a baby’s safety in mind. Installation instructions and hardware is included. They come in a wide variety of styles and are able to be used in almost any home décor.
